Another Black Life Lost

On September 21st a man was wrongfully shot and killed, and it shocked the whole nation. Keith Lamont Scott was described by his family as a kind man who simply, “loved to read.” At 43 years old, Keith became disabled after a near-death crash from a year ago, resulting in him having a TBI (traumatic brain injury). On this Wednesday in September, Keith was said to be acting suspicious while merely reading a book in his vehicle. Police approached him and suspected that the book he was holding was actually a gun. They gave him orders and he did as he was told, but he was still unfortunately shot and killed by police. His family and the rest of the nation believe this occurred because of the fact that he is an African American.
This story is important for many numerous reasons. First of all, it raises the question of what the US government is doing or going to do to fix these issues. The issue of race and movements such as “Black Lives Matter” remains unanswered by our government. Something needs to be done in order to prevent more events such as these from occurring. Second of all, when events such as these occur, our nation rises in uproar. A protest was held in Charlotte and it resulted in someone being fatally shot. The longer the US government stays quiet about this issue, the longer the violence will continue. Which also leads me to question America; is racism something that will ever come to an end?
